The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire!... may not only be applicable to global economic catastrophe, but for Governor Palin's titillating presence on Saturday Night Live. And, that's a rap. Er. Click for Amy Poehler's scintillating lyricism (disregard the commentary)

In addition to the intense partisanship, the race for the national presidency has also seen an interesting number of key political figures switching over to the other side. I guess, "the grass is greener on the other side" epitomizes this season's national politics. Just recently, Colin Powell voiced his concern for the presidential campaign--stating Obama as the more fit candidate. Despite serving in distinguished roles of national politics for both republican and democrat presidents, his endorsement for this year's election is clear: "Obama," he says, "would be a transformational president." Vote or not, this year's election is one to pay close attention to. -J.GUAVA Break the Silence aims to organize and multiply the strength of the community. Time: 6pm-10pm Location: The Sikh Center of Orange County Address: 2514 Warner Ave.,Santa Ana,CA 92704 [MAP] Cost: Free A 10-year-old girl sews garments instead of going to school. An older brother raises his siblings because his parents have passed away with HIV. Kids in the inner city not having the same oppurtunities as their peers. Do any of these images sound familiar? Many of us have traveled and seen firsthand the realities of children throughout the world, and even within our communities here in Southern California. Something needs to change, to give young people both locally and abroad opportunities, so that poverty does not become a continuous cycle. There are 93 million children of primary school age throughout the world who are not in school (UNICEF, 2005). 6 million K-12 students in California at serious risk (California Budget Project, 2008). Why is education a path to empowerment? How can we, as individuals be inspired to take action- so that there are equal opportunities in education throughout the world? Now, it’s your turn to do something. At this Evening of Awareness we will learn how we are all a part of the solution. MEET people from various non-profits working both locally and globally to provide education opportunities for the under-privileged. ENGAGE in dialogue with a panel discussion of dedicated activists, and learn more about the interconnectedness of social issues through an interactive web activity. BE INSPIRED as you learn and share what education means to you on the wall of inspiration. ENJOY the positive energy expressed through the beats of DJ nPrevail along with the music, poetry, dance and live art of local artists. FOOD will be provided, along with raffle prizes! --------------------- Speakers Include: Alpa Patel Marketing, Pratham USA Annie Kates Program Manager, Developments in Literacy Divinity Barkley Program Director, Bavubuka Girls Project Jesse Ross Peace4Kids Hosted By: Be the Cause One Imagination The Baha'i Community The Sikh Community Participating Organizations: Be the Cause http://www.bethecause.org/ One Imagination http://oneimagination.blogspot.com/ The Baha’i Community The Sikh Community Bavubuka Girls http://www.myspace.com/bavubukagirls Dancers4Lanka www.myspace.com/dancers4lanka Developments in Literacy http://www.dil.org/ Manav Sadhna http://www.manavsadhna.org/ Peace4Kids http://www.peace4kids.org/ Pratham USA http://www.prathamusa.org/ Stepping UP by OCCHC (Orange County Community Housing Corporation) http://www.occhc.org/ Tiny Toones Cambodia http://www.tinytoonescambodia.org/ Performances by: Baha’i Youth (TBA) Dancers4Lanka www.myspace.com/dancers4lanka The Guns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xWp0xIPj_s&feature=related Johnny Daelucian http://luminoushadow.com/ Jumakae www.myspace.com/siamesemeerkat Peace4Kids http://www.peace4kids.org/ For more information or to RSVP email [email protected], visit www.bethecause.org or call 760-280-8073 ---------------------------------------------- --J.GUAVA "Never Satisfied? Try these Six Negativity Busters" source (all text copied from website)
Don’t always “one-up”: It’s annoying when an acquaintance does it to you in a bar, so don’t do it to yourself. When you meet a goal you worked hard for, take a moment to celebrate the achievement instead of immediately focusing on what you can, or should do next. Live in the moment: As Ferris famously said, “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” People who get bogged down in the past or are always looking ahead to the future miss the small joys of life—like eating a perfectly well-done burger or seeing their baby smile—that are right in front of them today. Find a positive angle: Everyone experiences setbacks, but be careful not to allow a negative turn of events to color your view of the world. Look for something in the scenario that will help you learn and grow, and focus on that as you weather through. Look for the good in people: It’s easy to ruminate on your friends’ and family members’ flaws, as I’m sure there are many of them. But by having unrealistic expectations of what people should do or how they should act, you’re setting yourself for disappointment. The truth is that most people mean well, even if they screw up every now and then. Be thankful for the big things: In my house, we have a tendency to “sweat the small stuff.” But come on. I have a great career, a stable family, a roof over my head, and a healthy body. Do I really need to fret over the fact that Bass didn’t take my expired coupons? Beware of the “grass is always greener”: You don’t know the intimate details of other people’s situations, so it’s irrational to be jealous of them. And remember that you can be satisfied without being perfect. Even if you have your dream job or your dream family, you’re bound to have bad days. That doesn’t mean you should overhaul everything because you think you can do better someplace else. -J.GUAVA Break the Silence: Brief segment on The Guns: Beautiful.
